friday hodgepodge: fine in 09

On Moki, the Kids, and Me

First of all, there's Moki

You call this a puppy? She is Sasquatch.

We tried to weigh her the other day by first weighing ourselves and then hoisting her snarling arse up into our arms and attempting to step back on the scale. Bill and I each tried it, but the kids reported that the scale just said “Err” (they sounded it out, like a growl). She’s going to the kennel on Sunday night so we’ll weigh her then, my guess is 65 pounds. She comes up to my waist. She’s 8 ½ months old.

She really is getting much better, but still sometimes I wear shoes that look like this

.
This is her favorite toy, that she's had her whole life. She tosses it up into the air and chases it, she snuggles it as best she can.

It's a Bumble.

It's a finger puppet from a Christmas playset.

Here is the Bumble to scale
.

.
Perhaps inspired by Rosa Parks as we near the day of the Good Doctor King, she took a stand against sleeping in her crate and is now being a total a-hole with her midnight meandering and fretting about the house. Last night I was awakened around 3 by her happy face inches from my nose (that’s a good reference for how big she is – when I’m lying in bed on my side her face is higher than my mattress), growling hello around the toy in her mouth and thrashing her anaconda of a tail to and fro.
.
When we watch tv, she perches on top of the ottoman and watches us
.

.
Sometimes she needs intense relief.

And then there's The Kids
.
My girl recently offered the following advice to her brother:

“never believe in your mom when it comes to Taco Bell"
.

. .
My boy grew tired of people thinking he was a girl,

.
.

so he got a haircut and now he's all man

.

.

My kids go to a year-round school, and have been on winter break since Dec. 19. They have spent a lot of time at work with me these last two weeks, which has been a mixed bag. I dread the daily proclamation that “this is boring”. Thankfully, hanging out with mom at work means rides in the golf cart,

.

.

tackling inanimate objects on the football field,

.

.

and swimming in the pool, which I neglected to photograph so you will have to trust me when I tell you that it’s lovely.
.
And finally, Me

.
Because I am a slave to peer pressure, I now have both twitter and facebook. I have no idea how to make one of those “follow me on twitter!” or “friend me on facebook!” invitations. Recently, when a fellow parent at the kids' elementary school asked me if I was on facebook, I responded by suggesting that it was a venue reserved for college co-eds and strippers. I’m not in college anymore. Sooooo ..... lap dance, anyone?

  1. I love that Mokie's favorite toy is smaller than her paw. And she's so non-chewy with it!

What's the deal with Taco Bell? Are you spreading LIES about it? :)

  2. I too was totally sucked into Facebook. I spend an obscence amount of time stalking people there. It's quite fun!

Also where do you work? That place sounds like lots of fun to me. I want to go to work with you!

  3. Oh Jesus, Jacquie, not you too? Facebook was all Johanna and Johnny could talk about on Sunday. Please don't take me down with you, please!

And I'm now determined to get to the bottom of the Taco Bell mystery....

  5. That dog has the same heart as my Auggie. Who weighs at most 13 lbs. But does more damage than you'd think a dog that size could possibly do.

  6. Aw, what a nice trip through loveliness with y'all. Your puppy and your kids are gigantic.

I am completely in the dark when it comes to facer and twitbook, too. Old school.
