Today is Tuesday, a notoriously humdrum day of the week claiming right to neither the anguish of Monday nor the blazing mediocrity of Wednesday. But today, my luscious little lambie pies, today is special. Because today I love Tuesday. This Tuesday is my friend.
Because I am on vacation! And the world is a pretty, propitious, promising place.
In honor of this auspicious occasion, I want to give something back to the universe. I want to share my gifts with you, my little sugarboogers.
Yet I have so little to offer, my gifts are so benign, so banal, so…. Wednesday.
But there is this one thing.
This thing is a good thing. I found it one day at a hotel pool, and I knew I had to make it my very own. I’ve taxed and I’ve toiled to get it just right.
And I have done it.
And now, I offer it to you,
The Strawberry Lemonata:
Begin with the assembly of these wholesome, delicious ingredients:
.
citrus vodka
strawberries
mint
lemonade
limeade or fresh squeezed lime
and triple sec if you didn't use it all up in your margaritas, you lush
Now be a good little lambie pie and wash and stem those nice, ripe berries. Put them in a bowl with lots of mint. If they're not really ripe, toss some sugar on top to encourage maximum juiciness. Here's where you'd also tip in a splash of triple sec if you're lucky:
mash this magical mixture into mush, but don't get carried away. You want this thick enough to scoop up with rather than clog your straw
*I've dreamed of eating this leftover mash on top of vanilla ice cream. But I've yet to have any leftovers
Now fill some large-ish glasses with ice, then scoop a healthy dollop of the love-mash right onto the ice. If I were you, I'd totally squeeze some lime into your glasses at this point.
Do I really need to tell you what to do with this?
Then, fill your glasses almost up with lemonade, and top off with limeaid. Stir with wild abandon. Be thankful to be you, for you are about to enjoy such deliciousness.
.
I have to warn you, this story is not all sunshine and rainbows. There is a dark, ominous cloud lurking beneath all the strawberry goodness.
.
It's gone in 3 seconds.
.
Now go forth and summer, my people!
I love the fact that the strawberries make it healthy, and the vodka makes it drinkable!
ReplyDeleteNow that is one refreshing-looking beverage. I hear you about the 3-second thing, though. That drinkie-poo would have no chance against the likes of me.
ReplyDeleteMy new summer drink? Vodka and grapefruit. Delicious, refreshing, not too sweet, and prevents scurvy. I drank us right out of vodka on Sunday night, though, and had to switch to gin-and-grapefruit.
But enought about me. When can I have a strawberry lemonada, please?
Ellie
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm is right.
ReplyDeleteNice way to take on a Tuesday, although I think you were actually drinking these on Monday. I have faith though, Jacquie. I bet you'd drink one today too.
Beth
Mmmmmm, looks like I have to try this!
ReplyDeleteThen again, anything with vodka works for me =)
Hello there ladies,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog today and I am hooked. That drink looks fabulous! I cannot wait to make it this weekend. Actually - screw the weekend - I'll make it tonight. :)
Hmmmm, I'm a little unsure about this craziness. Are you giving me a gift? Or are you taunting me with the idea that SOME people are off drinking cocktails while I slave away at work (obviously).
ReplyDeleteOf course, nothing will stop me from enjoying this beverage as soon as possible.
WAAAAA!!! I WANT TO DRINK BOOZE!!!! WAAA!!!!!!!! Only *sniff* 4 and a half more months until I can drink again. *sniff*
ReplyDeleteOk, so I get a baby out of it, but still. I WANT TO DRINK BOOZE!!!
Ellie - next stinking WEEK, girlfriend! The Poconos aren't going to know what hit them.
ReplyDeleteBeth - actually, it was Saturday! But who's counting? Do you think that absolut still exists?
Working stiffs and pregnant peeps - I feel your anguish. I've been there, done that. I will be back to work quite soon, but not preggo, please God - in fact, the very day that I rejoin the workforce will likely be the day that my Beth ceases this sober pregnancy nonsense!
I refuse to wish the time away, but I'm happy for Beth's sake that it's not too long...
