Jelly Roll

Two weeks ago today our friends Hsin-Yi and Chris had a bouncing baby boy. He had been given the nickname Jelly Roll -- in utero -- by his parents, and we all jumped for joy when young Jelly Roll made his appearance onto our fair planet.

Our friend Ted wrote on fase book facebook that day: And unto them a Jelly Roll is born!

Poor ol' Jelly Roll had to stay in the hospital for a week or so, but he's home now, and doing great, and eating a lot and sleeping a lot and the other day, at least, strolling the 'hood with his mom . . .

. . . when they both wound up on our deck.

Hsin brought a bottle of her very own Hsin-milk in case young Jelly Roll woke up . . .

. . . and although he did eat . . .

. . . this was about as close as he got to waking up. We almost saw his eyes. Well, one eye.

Hey, he's no dummy. Someone brings a bottle of pure deliciousness to his lips in that fuzzy area between sleep and wakefulness, and he starts sucking. What's the point of opening his eyes?

The kid is tired . . .

. . . and really terribly stinking cute.

As is his mom. Plus, she's a natural.

We just don't get enough babies on our deck, we realized.

But we're hoping all that's going to change. We're hoping ol' Jelly Roll makes our deck one of his regular stops on his strolling circuit.

We're hoping other babies out there hear what a warm, welcoming spot our deck is for an afternoon visit . . .

. . . where there are plenty of friends to coo at you . . .

. . . and plenty of arms to hold you . . .

. . . and where their Moms get to drink pure deliciousness, too.

  1. Thanks for bringing the tequilla, Hsinny! It has been duly set aside and dedicated for further deck visits.

And next time we'll run the blender closer to the boy; maybe that'll wake him up.

    ahh BABIES!
Nothing quite like them...all that warmth and goodness bundled up as pure joy!
Wish I could say the same for teenagers ;)
Let me know when you want a few of them dropped off on your deck...that would be one worthwhile roadtrip!

  3. I'm glad to see you finally gave that poor woman a chair. All the time I'm thinking -- this woman just gave birth and you're making her sit cross-legged on a wood floor while you and Mistah relax in comfort on furniture and neither of you just pushed a human being out of your tender nether regions.

  4. Margarita's and having spare arms to hold Jelly Roll are my new favorite things. I hope it's sunny next Monday, because that was the highlight of my day! Maybe next time we'll get some eyes =)

You and Bill are pros at the baby thing, I think I'll need to take lessons from you!

  6. Baby Jelly Roll! So cute! All that living in the world is just so tiring, isn't it?

Both mama and baby do look fabulous. Enjoy! (Before you know it you'll be giving away the infant bath and boppy and slings...they get big so fast!)

  7. LOL @ XUP, everyone but Hsin got a chair! She had to bribe them with tequila to earn a proper seat. Congrats on making such a beautiful little human, Hsin! I look forward to watching him grow through deck photo ops, and also hope to get to meet both of you when we're back east this summer!

    Nice one, Ellie

  8. I have to say this little Jelly Roll looks like he could fool even the most adamant childless adult into wanting one. Well, at least wanting to hold one.
