nothing says "I love you, mom" like a bottle of patron

for updates on my boy, please visit this page

I thought I had a clue about being a mom. I thought that after these 12 or so years of having a child in me or out of me, I had a pretty good sense of who I am as a mother, and that this sense of self would prevail through the trials that I expected.

We don't plan for the unexpected. If we did, we'd call it something else.

I didn't expect that I'd find such joy in acting like, to quote my son: "A dork and three quarters."

I also did not expect that just by being a mom, I qualified for free chair massages and raffle prizes.

Who can know what to expect from this ride?

But just in case you were wondering, I AM the

I'm at a bit of a loss with the writing and the witty reparte and all. I'm in such a weird, foreign place. I don't want to take the time to learn the language of this land, I want my visit to be short and forgetable.

You'll just have to forgive the rambling incoherence of my posts. K? K.

Mother's Day. blah blah blah, you know what I want. What I need.

But what it is is something completely differerent, and somehow we adjust our expectations and it becomes a. very. good. day.

Once again, a good day.

The patron helps.

  1. Now, that's love. Getting a fake ID and risking arrest to get your Mom a great present...

I hope my kid is as devoted.

    Which child gave you Patron?
And, according to your daughter's card, eat up! You're as little as a stick-figure!

My 9 yr old told me it wasn't fair that daddy and I got TWO birthdays and all the kids only get ONE.
"Birthdays?" I asked.."Yes, you get your birthday and Mother's day."
I replied, "That's just incentive to one day have kids."

I won't mention the study that showed childless people to be happier..we'll save that for another holiday ;)

  3. A dork and three quarters. That is the best. I love that about motherhood too.

And I love your boy's letter, sadly he ran out of space, indeed, because I could have gone on reading that forever!

And you know what they say, if the shirt fits, wear it :-)

  4. "Once again I love you" is not quite "You are my life! You are my love!" but it's close....

And I commented on your boy's card on Wobbleboy. That kid has never changed with that deadpan delivery. "But sadly I ran out of space." Perfect.

And lastly, is it me or are your commenters particularly clever and engaging today?

Love you. Great post. Have a shot on me.

  5. "Once again, I love you" is priceless! That child obviously had space left over to reiterate thoughts while the other ran out of space...interesting, no?

  6. Hi Jacquie, we met at the Bossy meet-up, and I was (finally) catching up a bit on everyone's blogs. I'm so sorry for the difficult times you're going through lately. What a scare, but of course comment that doesn't begin to cover it.

Sounds like you had a great Mother's Day...great cards. And enjoy that Patron! I will be keeping you & your son in my thoughts.
