Sigh.
We had a great time.
Renee's a Florida girl, and although it may seem superfluous to spend time showing a Florida girl the New London--to--Rhode Island Coastline, it's not. Florida girls like Coastlines.
Our journey started in New London. Where many journeys do.
That's America's tall ship, the Barque Eagle, and that's ol' Ledgie in the background.
The Connecticut shore has a great combination of big wooden structures and marinas. Groton Long Point is no exception.
I'm notorious for not crossing the bridge -- in fact, in Mystic, a guy said hi to me and said, "Aren't you on the wrong side of the bridge?" But when you need to drive your friend to the Providence airport, you need to cross the bridge.
I love a good dinghy dock. |
Next: Noank. These villages are all new to me, too. Crossing the bridge and all that.
Could be Noank, could be the Keys. This is Noank. But it could be the Keys.
Lunch? Oh, yes. Lunch. Chowdah and oysters and salads and calamari and chardonnay . . .
. . . and great views . . .
. . . and the Mystic River . . .
. . . aww. And a tugboat. Gone Mystic-upscale.
And then? Later in the afternoon? The pièce de résistance? Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
The beach at Watch Hill was covered with weird, round, flat jellies, the like of which I'd never seen before.
Hey Renee! |
Hi! |
It really was time to get off the coastline and on the interstate and to the airport . . .
But look! The newly re-built Ocean House! Surely we have time for one. last. beer? But do you think we can find a bar?
Hey look! A bar!
Oh, we found a bar.
Bye Renee. Happy Trails. Now get on back here soon, ya hear?
Ellie, you are the best. What a great jaunt, and how lucky Renee is to have a friend like you. Ellen
ReplyDeleteEek, those jellies give me SUCH heebie jeebies. But the bar shot makes me feel much better.
ReplyDeleteIt's all so freaking picturesque! Glad you had a great visit with Renee.
xoxoxo
Jacquie
Huh, I find them oddly beautiful, although, of course, I would have major heebie jeebies if I was swimming around with them. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though Renee enjoyed herself. I mean, Ledgie, the Barque Eagle, "the bridge," dinghy docks, chowdah, oysters, calamari, chardonnay, a tugboat, and one last beer?
C'mon!
xo,
Beth
