We were very fortunate that there were gifts o'plenty under the Christmas tree this year. I myself received some very nice loot, but perhaps my very favorite gift this year is not one of my own, but one my daughter received.
She received a small shiny blue laptop at her dad's house.
Am I happy about it because she can use it for homework? Well, sort of. But my glee is more about the fact that she is now able to email me.
Yes!
It would be fun for any parent to receive emails from their tween girl, I'm sure. But my girl lives away from me 50% of the time. It's awesome to be able to communicate with her during those four long days when she's not around.
.
Sure, we talk on the phone, but seeing those unopened emails from my girl is like a little present each and every time; most are full of love, and hugs and kisses. Although her very first email to me was all business:
Hi Mom....it's A! I have email now and Skype because Santa gave me a blue laptop. You should download Skype so we can video chat.
Love A
Video chat? That would be fun, honey. She then also complained that I’m never available to “Google Talk.” First of all it’s “Google Chat,” honey, and secondly, I’d be happy to make myself available to chat with you.
But so far we haven’t. We just keep adding on to this second message she sent
Hi mom it's a I miss you already.
I always miss you, A! Hope you're having a great day :-)

Tank you mom. [My very favorite]
Tank you to all of you for indulging me. I just had to share some of those xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxos!!
And I too am having great fun being able to email with my granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteI promised her I would figure out Skype...so, yet another technological challenge for this mid-sextigenarian.
Love,Mom/Nonnie
At least Nonnie might be more available to google chat and Skype.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet coming from a tween who misses her mom.
It's a bit annoying when you have a 13 year old who keeps confiscating a laptop so she can Skype with friends that she just saw a matter of hours before and she will see first thing the next morning...really?! you need to see your friends while you talk?! (and then she reminds me that she wouldn't have to do this if she only had a cell phone..then she'd get off the face to face and text. What ever happened to calling someone on a landline phone and just talking?! Seems so old fashioned these days.
Savor this!!
How sweet! My boy got a phone for Christmas, and he's a texting madman. I'm hoping the novelty will wear off eventually, I'm sure my whole family shares that hope. It sure came in handy last night when I was late picking him up from karate, though. And I think it will be great for coordinating changes to after school activities and instructions, as long as he doesn't flush it down the toilet.

Jacquie
Aw, Tank you for sharing, B. How sweet.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can corroborate Jacquie's boy's mad texting skillz. Especially when he was in the basement at Jane's house, and Jacquie was upstairs.
