The Ellie Mitchell

Remember the Ellie Mitchell Pavilion at Rocky Neck State Park? The Pavilion named after me and My Girl Nancy if we got married and I took her (married) name?

Well, coming upon the Pavilion while hiking isn't the only good thing about the Ellie Mitchell Pavilion. Oh no. Another really fabulous thing about the Ellie Mitchell Pavilion is going to a wedding within the confines of her warm stone walls.

To get to said wedding, one can walk through the parking lot, passing the catering vans, or one can walk on Ellie Mitchell's beautiful wrap-around-stone porch . . .

. . . with one's motley crew everlastingly four steps behind . . .

. . . make that five steps.

The Ellie Mitchell Pavilion is the most gorgeous backdrop for a wedding . . .

. . . it's perfect for the wedding party lining itself up . . .

. . . and it's perfect for a stunningly beautiful bride gathering herself to walk down the aisle . . .

. . . to meet her lovely man.

Even the Mary Ellen showed up for the festivities . . .

. . . there was a whole lot of gorgeousness going on, my friends.

And a whole lot of pure, unfiltered, unmitigated, optimistic, good love.

And, yessssssss. The deed done.

The Pavilion is a really great background for photos . . .

. . . I mean, it's like she curves herself around to get in the shot.

And the inside?

Well, those WPA guys knew a thing or two about construction. And wood. And stone . . .

. . . and windows.

Oh, how we love those windows . . .

. . . what's not to love?

Looking out the windows isn't so bad either . . .

. . . if you're into that whole awesome beautiful-nature-beach thing.

The Ellie Mitchell Pavilion also provides a great backdrop and a great stage, for toasts . . .

. . . of the best man-Dad-kind . . .

. . . and the best-maid-of-honor-sister-kind . . .

. . . and it also gives the bride a chance to positively shine amongst her friend-peeps.

. . . and it provides a pretty great backdrop for the Full-Harvest-Moon to shine, too . . .

 . . . and for the moon's friends to shine. Like Johnny Slips . . .

. . . and the newly-minted Mr. and Ms. S.

But mostly, the Rocky Neck State Park Ellie Mitchell Pavilion is all about its windows . . .

. . . oh, those windows.

Ellie Mitchell? We're moving in.

Thanks for a gorgeous day, Kimmie and Rich. It was perfect.
Happy Trails!

  1. ooh, I love that space. The ocean AND a cool venue. I had looked at Rocky Neck State Park when we were scoping sites for the (fateful) '09 Flatley Reunion. It used to just be a web page with cool ammenities to me; now it's cool in real life to me!
