A Dog, A Lizard, A Tree

A Dog
It's a big weekend for the Huskies of Connecticut (yes, basketball again). The men's and women's teams are in the Final Four, and it's almost more nerve-wracking than I can bear. There's only one thing to do at a time like this. Get in the Westy on Saturday, drive to Milford, and watch the men play the Greeks Spartans with Mary Beth and Mark, two of the world's biggest UConn fans, on Mark's 55" high-def plasma tv.

Aw-ah. With Husky Dog at the Victory Parade after the UConn men won the National Championship in 1999.
We were mere tiny tots 10 years ago.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Go Huskies.

A Lizard
We had no computer at our house this week. Bill came home on Tuesday, couldn't get it to work, brought it in to the shop on Tuesday afternoon, and we were without it until Thursday afternoon. No internet, no uploading photos, no Word or Excel or photoshop. No internet. For 48 hours. That's a lifetime. Civilizations have risen and fallen in less time. Mountains have turned to dust. While we sat on the couch and read. And listened to the UConn women win with really bad reception. The UConn women didn't have bad reception; the radio did. Why does a.m. radio come in so badly at nighttime?

Anyway. We thought we needed a new fan, because the poor little laptop was blinking “fan error.” But Mr. Computer Fix-It Man discovered that the fan was only jammed up with Chihuahuan Desert dust and sand from living in Fort Davis.

Much like our little friend Horny Toad here, in our Fort Davis front yard. But Horny Toads, which are actually short-horned lizards, like Chihuahuan Desert dust and sand; laptops do not.

Bill had an auction on ebay ending on Wednesday night, and we had no way to follow it. So we did the only sensible thing. We called Jacquie in San Diego and asked her to get online to find out how the auction ended. After all, she had just gotten home with the kids from karate, she needed to help them get bathed and to bed, and she hates talking on the phone. Perfect. And the book did not sell.

A Tree
Remember this tree? It was in the back yard of our across-the-street neighbors' house, and was featured – okay, was in – the photos Mistah took of our niece and the giant dog Layla last summer.

Little Girl, Big Dog, Big Tree.

This is what happened to that poor ol' tree yesterday. Hey, you win some, you lose some.

What, you may well ask, do Husky Dogs, Horny Toads, laptops, karate and fallen trees have in common? Well, *I* have no idea. I was hoping someone else could figure that out for me.

  1. Connection?

Good stress, bad stress, some just necessary stress...
    Stress none the less?

    Or, varied reading.

  2. I believe that's what we call "friday hodgepodge", my little feathered friend!

It's true that I dislike talking on the phone, but I sure do enjoy the colorful texting banter while driving down California freeways!

  3. Jacquie, I'm shocked! While driving? You're such a law breaking rebel!

Not sure of all the connections, but perhaps Jacquie's boy could karake chop the fallen tree.
