Good start

I really enjoyed the first day of 2009. It was just how I think the first day of the new year should unfold. I've spent a few January 1sts really hungover, happily watching the Monk marathon on USA Network, but that's not what this January 1st was all about. This January 1st I got right into my new year out with the old/in with the new mode.

That's right. First I stripped the tree.

And packed up all the godawful joyous Christmas decorations.

Next, I tackled some long neglected projects around the house.

I replaced those pesky, old corroded shower curtain hangers that the former owners of my house left behind, with new ones.

I then finally figured out how to hook my DVD/VCR player to the cable box/TV. It's only been annoying me since Labor day, when we moved in; it just took a new year to spur me into action.

I next went through my books and picked out a few goodies for the new 2009 book exchange we're starting at the office.
.

By then, my friends, I was in need of a break, and the natives were getting restless, so we did what good San Diegans do on a sunny new year's day.

We went swimming. (Okay, I didn't go swimming, it was only in the 60s, but they did. I just sat in the sun.)

Happy New Year to one and all. Peace out.

Good for you, 2009 is off to a great start! My kids went swimming on Jan 1 as well, while I laid (lay? lied? layed?) in the sun (translation: huddled in the fetal position on a chaise while begging my mom to cover me with warm towels )

Our tree comes down today, onward!

And hey, don't give away Run before you let me read it!

Sunday. Sunday the tree comes down. Can't wait.

I liked The Death of Vishnu.

Not enough to read it again, but yeah.

Wow, I'm impressed at all your enterprise.

I liked Run and The Time Traveler's Wife, and The Death of Vishnu has been on my reading list for ages.... since my summer reading blog. This must be the sign I needed to finally read it.

Sadly, I was hung over and accomplished nothing!

Can I just say you're a cool mom for letting your kids swim when it was only in the 60's? I approve. When I was a kid, my mom wouldn't let me swim unless it was like 85 degrees outside. The poor woman wears sweats when it's 75 outside, though. She's convinced that if SHE is cold, then the REST of us must be cold, too!
