Ofrendas and tambors

Well here it is, the 2013 edition. I so love this annual event at my girls' school. And this year's was better then ever, with a beautiful box ofrenda (offering/alter) made by my oldest daughter in honor of my uncle (her great uncle) who passed last August, and my other daughter out front and center in the very boisterous parade, beating her tambor.

That's one giant pumpkin, which was grown on campus ;)

I am loving that bow and the eyelashes!

This calavera has style, I tell ya

Hit of LSD anyone? KIDDING, of course, this is a family event, but, um, look at those eyeballs!

If I ever need major dental work, I want it to end up looking like this!

Aw, Bobby. My girl did such a good job with this.
Aw, and look at baby girl so happy on his lap.

Somebody really digs percussion. Uh oh.

Clouds 3.0

Clouds.

That's what it's all about.

Or, okay, they're part of what it's all about.

Mistah took all these photos on one day last week . . .

Seriously.

November 2nd, 2013.

One day of the world from this tiny viewpoint.

And frankly . . .

. . . what other viewpoint would you want?

Okay, okay, I get that instead of telephone poles, one could have saguaros . . .

But still.

Wait, do I see what I think I see?

Yes! It's true! The Full Boogsie!

Anyway.

The Clouds.

All for us.

Let's Revisit the Classics

I think this will be my favorite recycled classic, revisited post ever. I always start with the same date in a different year. It serves me well, in fact my very last post was from Halloween last year! Er, oops. That’s two in a row. Nevermind! We’re revisiting the classics. For November 5th, 2013, I looked back on early November in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. The way I was searching I could not click on a specific date, just the month in a year would bring me to a long list of post titles. I’d choose one toward the bottom whose title I recognized as my own. It’s a bit like closing your eyes and pointing to a work in the dictionary. Or bible? What is that thing? Anyway. I  picked one from each year and guess what? They are all awesome.  Okay that sounds really pompous. Let’s just say that I like them all. I really, really like them. And I hope you do, too.

“As a mother and a voter and an eternal optimist, I’ve looked for and often found ways to see the bright side. I’m not one to sit in protest of “God Bless America”, even though it has no place in the 7th inning stretch. From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans, white with foam. Home is still sweet to me, and I want my civic pride back.”

“I can just grunt like the cavewoman I have become after this long, packed weekend and gesture at the cute and/or disturbing images of my spawn and their cohorts.”

“Westy-lust seems to course through our family genes. Everyone knows that Ellie and Bill have one, but do they know that Julie has one too? Why wouldn't she? When you see a flash of brilliance, you can't help but want a little slice for yourself. Why  wouldn't *I*?”

“She asked to go to the office because she was having ‘lady issues’. Then she came back with a sandwich.”

“Today was a beautiful day, there are few things in this world that feel better than the way I feel when my mom is hanging out with my kids, my family, me. She's aces.”

Slice of life

I love the age 4. Yes, there are still some tantrums, but they are far and few between. Most of the time is smooth sailing. My girl is becoming so funny, and her vocabulary is exploding.

So many things she says and does right now crack me up.

And she still loves me SO much.

There are always treasures to take home from her school. Without fail. She is nothing if not an artist.

The one below, which she presented me with on Friday afternoon, made me laugh out loud. I'm not really sure why, it's not all that funny, I guess it was mainly in her delivery.

"Here mom, this is for you. It's you with shorts and no shirt."

Those are some rockin' shorts I've got on. I doubt anyone will even notice I'm shirtless.

A Trip To Scott's

What does one do on a beautiful October day in Southeastern Connecticut, you ask?

Take a trip to Scott's, naturally.

You know the kind of place . . .

piles of gourds . . .

. . . and apples . . .

. . . and peppers . . .

. . . and more gourds.

It's the kind of place that people imagine when they hear the word "autumn".

Even the chickens have autumnal earth tones . . .

. . . handsome devils, aren't they?

But for me, it's all about the gourds.

I love the gourds.

I'm a big fan of the gourds.

And I especially love multi-colored piles of gourds.

And when the exhaustion of shopping for gourds and pumpkins and apples hits . . .

. . . well, one can relax with a nice-gourd-filled luncheon.

Or wait, I've got an even better idea. There's a little place right up the road . . .

Happy Harvest!
