Sisterhood of the Travelling Glass

Last month on my birthday, my great friend Desiree gave me a lovely crystal martini glass festooned with birthday love. Here's a photo of me with two crazy eyes, one freaky chin, and the glass:

Here's a slightly more normal photo of me and my happy glass

normal is a relative term
I knew right then and there that this glass would not be sitting in a cabinet until  November 19, 2012. This glass was going places. Places like bars. Bars where my friends and I inevitably gather to celebrate each others' birthdays.

Desiree herself was next in line, her birthday was a couple of days ago, and I proudly presented her with The Glass from which to imbibe.

Oh, we inbibed allright. Des had a mission to get us all a round of this very unusual drink we'd tried at a recent happy hour.

It sounds gross.

It maybe even looks gross. But it is the polar opposite of gross. It is pure joy.

It is the cotton candy martini.

And yes, you get a martini glass full of cotton candy! Weird? Certainly. Weirdly awesome? Most definitely. Because those precious little shakers for one contain the happy juice, which when poured atop the fairy floss..

The bartender did the honors for Des, the birthday girl

renders it into little more than a hint of raw sugar to sweeten the jug-o-booze that finds itself in your pretty glass.

We ordinary girls were left to our own wiles

Cotton Candy Cuban
Dark Rum, Mint, Sparkling wine, lime juice, raw sugar fairy floss
Get yours here

Next on the agenda was another fantastic stop where our mission was to procure the plantain carnitas, so the drinks were left to our imagination

La Pinta Sparkler
La pinta pomegranite infused tequila, champagne, lime squeeze

And then things got a little interesting

 Barrio Michelada
Tecate beer, fresh lime, worcestershire sauce, pepper with a chili-pepper flake salt rim
Pictured? Perhaps. Enjoyed? Oh, yes.

Can't anyone come up with another birthday before March?

Is it bad that I'm drooling over these drinks at 8 a.m.? No, right? 'Tis the season and all?

I'm telling you right here right now, those drinks sound awesome, every one. And all in one night? You women are not only fabulously gorgeously babe-a-licious wonders, you're also rock-'n'-roll superstars.

LOVE that you brought that glass for Des to every stop. How great is that? And you look gorgeous, my darling girl. But we *still* have not seen that purple dress in its entirety.

Love you.

Ellie, the glass traveled to a total of three spots, and our nice bartenders washed it for us every time!

Beth, you should definitely take Kendra down to Banker's Hill for her birthday... I'd love to join you, but I'll be leaving on a jet plane that day!!
