The Transportation Hub

New London is a Transportation Hub.

And if that sounds grand, well, it should. We have rails, we have buses, we have interstates out the wazoo, and we have the grand and glorious Thames River which meets the Long Island Sound, and therefore we have ferries. Lots and lots of ferries.

One (i.e. me) can take all this industry and moving-forwardness and hullabaloo for granted. But then a certain Mistah Schleckah will do a late-fall, late-afternoon stroll, and the effect of the resulting photos of the bustling awesomeness of New London can feel like one (i.e. me) getting hit in the back of the head with a 2x4.

Let's join Mistah on his stroll, shall we?

Oh, how I love a train.

And oh how I love a ferry.

Because ferries will take you here and they will take you there, and they will bring your car, if you so desire.

And oh how I adore a tugboat. I have an everlasting softspot in my heart for tug boats.

And how I love a boat called Chief.

And I do love a vessel called Pamela Ann.

Eileen Rita?? Brittany Eryn?? Oh, please count me in.

I love the Hub's beauty against its backdrop of efficiency and utility*.
(*Because I really love schedules.)

But the tugboat? Its bold red with the Big Bad Bridge in its background? Gets me every time.

Oh, how I love a Hub.

Magnificent photos and commentary. You know how I love my little city, but thanks for bringing it home again. As if...

When I lived there, I loved the fact that I could walk out my front door and walk about two blocks to get a train OR a ferry (or a beer at the Dutch ;-)

Great pics!
