Making history

Ok, so maybe not history that you *want* to make, but history nonetheless -- the biggest loss of any opening day game, ever! Or at least that's what I heard...

But no matter -- my mom and I had fun at Petco Park on Tuesday afternoon for the Padres home opener -- despite the loss.

There was live music.

My mom ran into friends, who she cut into the beer line with, at her fancy members-only club before the game started.

I mean, just take a look at this pre-game lounge vista. Take me out to the ballgame, indeed.

Then there was all of the US Navy Parachute team excitement.
Flag included.

And then that gigantic flag held by 275 Marines and sailors! With accompanying fireworks, and patriotic song.
And beer.

And peanuts.

And more beer!
And much better seats after relocating about the 4th inning.
So, really? We won, even if the Pads did not.

How many home openers is that for your mom???

So happy you got to go. San Diego looks fabuloso, as usual -- especially compared to the nonsense here.

Let's Go Mets!!

Looks like a great time! Dismal game, man. Hoping they can give Pat something to cheer for this summer

It was great fun and probably a good thing we couldn't really see much for the first few innings. It was my 39th consecutive opening day. I warned Beth that the day will come when she will have to wheel me in my wheel chair. I gotta make 50.

So you were on my mind as I headed to Camden Yards for my first ever Orioles Opening Day...and I had to qualify my bucket list by mentioning that I had been to an Opening Day but it was way back in 2009 at Petco Park (pre-Pat living in SD) and I was by myself, which isn't as fun as I thought it would be when I don't really care too much for either team and I won't run into people I may know from the last 40+ years of my lifeI Then I was wondering if you and your mom were sitting in seats 2,000 miles from me NOT having the rainy weather mar your baseball experience...and then I saw the dreadful score and thought, "well, it's still Opening Day baseball in sunny CA, so how bad can it be?" And I was right! This post proves it (and you had to throw in a little Pizza Port for good measure) The Orioles had to win because I had to sit through 2 rain delays..the first being for NO RAIN!! and then had to leave and hear the win on the radio on my 2.5 hour drive back to the middle of nowhere, where Pirate and Phillie fans live. The Padres? They can lose and still show a girl and her mom a lovely day :)
