It's such a beautiful production. The costumes and choreography are truly stunning. The music is amazing too.
If you've never seen it, here are some photos I lifted from The Lion King Facebook page.
Incredible, right?
And although many of you won't have time to check this out, the video below gives life to these photos, and takes you back stage:

Incredibly, we were able to go backstage post-show too. My awesome boyfriend has a friend that was with the production in New York for a few years. She jumped back on for the San Diego shows, and luckily for us, her first show was the very show we all went to.
She lead us around backstage, introducing us to cast members and pointing out all the various costumes. There are so big and so many in number that some have to be suspended from the ceiling. It was a sight to behold.
See all those gazelle head pieces behind us? Cool, right? |
For my boyfriend, the show lives on. So far during the production's stay in San Diego he's treated grown Nala, a hyena, the company dance instructor, and a few gazelles. And even given a surf lesson to one of the gazelles.
We'll miss them when they're gone!

How wondrous -- that show is desperately lacking from my repertoire, but I think I need to change that. Those costumes! I worked in NYC when it first opened there and I remember the breathless reviews . . .
You all look beautiful -- even your problematic youngest.
Love!

Such an amazing show, even for mere mortals like me who just got to experience it from the cheap seats!
Lucky girls, and I adore ms C

This takes me back...Lion King was calvin's first Broadway show in NYC and I was pregnant with Sally when we went. (my cousin had a connection so we were 5 rows from the stage and on the aisle seat) Sally turns 16 tomorrow so that shows you how far back this takes me. It is such an incredible production and tears flowed at the awesomeness! We had such a long line for the bathroom afterwards that we ended up seeing the young Simba and Nayla when we finally made it out, so these pictures are really reflective of that special day all those years ago...Thank-you!
Jacquie, we saw it in NYC when your girl was a wee one. She and I watched a lot of the show standing in the back of the theater, lol. Awesome post, Beth, you all look great....
