Summer of Food Love

And now, as we say goodbye to that fleeting, fabulous season we call summer, let us pay homage to the glory of summer food, and the sing the praises of the bounty the Earth shares with us in those fecund months* . . .

*I just made that up.

It all starts with the tomatoes. It always, always starts with the tomatoes.

And this year we had the bumper crop to end all bumper crops.

Combined with the bumper crop to end all bumper crops of cayenne, jalapeno, habanero and chile peppers.

Happy hour with tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and basil and olives? Why, no, it does not get any better.

And Mistah's signature dish from that bumper crop of ours . . .

Hot-pepper-and-basil-pesto pasta with fresh green beans, grilled hot italians and corn on the cob.

We had it, or a variation of it, almost every night.

And we still have plenty of peppers on the plants, and a few hearty tomatoes hanging on for dear life . . .  maybe summer's not entirely over yet.

Because we still have baseball, too.

How 'bout those Tigers??!

Yummy. Yummy. Yummy. That 4th photo, of the tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and basil and olives? OMG, Ellie, what are you trying to do to us?! I'm salivating. It's not at all pretty either....
But your beautiful produce certainly is.

October is going to be fabulous! You and those tomatoes can definitely hang on!

Alrighty then...the Yankees with their ridiculous payroll didn't get any further than the Rays with their minuscule payroll...and I am all for Milwaukee as well.

Yu.....UM. I'm starving to death. I've got to say that I don't think 2D photographs can capture the inner beauty of those pesto dishes. Good thing there are so many distracting phallic symbols to make up for it.

I really want a tomato right now, eaten over the sink with a salt shaker in hand.

You may be surprised to learn that although I am a huge Tigers fan, I also HATE the playoffs. I do not like adding stress to my favorite sport! Still...I think they can go all the way this year.

My favorite team is the Tigers.
My second favorite team is whoever is playing the Yankers.
