magic monday

Beth is unavailable for blogging on this fine Monday, she is (hopefully) being sprung at long last, and heading home

.
with this little troublemaker
.
.
who I had the pleasure to formally meet and snuggle with yesterday evening while Beth and I enjoyed a little sushi and beer. Her buttcheeks are like teeny little apricots. (the baby's are cute, too... badum bum) Little Elizabeth Capri, aka "Cappi", is completely delicious. Beth will be back soon, and in the meantime Ellie and I will just have to search our addled brains for something to post about.....
.
hey, how 'bout the poconos?
.
One of the many things about this trip that we had all anticipated with unbridled enthusiasm was the promise of nightly entertainment at our home in the hills, the Pocmont Resort. Each night, we would meet around our reserved tables in the dining room for dinner (a record of our consumption definitely merits a post of its own), and would then retire to the starlight room, where we crossed the threshold directly into the twilight zone.
.
The room was large and windowless, and could accommodate a lot more audience members than were ever present during our stay. There were regulars out every night though, and as you might have expected, the Corey Reunion represented.
.
Our activity sheet promised a ventriloquist on the first night. How exciting! That's a cool talent, even though puppets are kind of stupid and potentially disturbing. I thought the kids would get a charge of this act, and I was right. They loved it! The thing about that is ... kids are really easily entertained. I was game, I was in a great mood with a belly full of good food and drink and all my peeps around me. The guy told some jokes and was corny but funny enough.
.
And then he brought out the first puppet. It was an old man puppet, I think.
.
And then he pretended to make the puppet talk. But he totally moved his lips!
.
He moved his lips like he was addressing his alternate personality in the mirror. The puppet was just an awkward prop, who was also sort of moving his lips, but puppets don't really have lips so he just sort of flapped his mouth parts while the guy talked through his own moving lips.
.
I tried to be a good sport, but then I started to look around and something told me that I wasn't the only one disappointed with this cherade. My husband was trying to off himself with a finger gun. My sisters wore a montage of expressions ranging from bewilderment to amusement to skeptical fear. Ellie stage whispered: "He's not even ventriliquizing!"
.
The debriefing reflection on this travesty was interesting, because several of my family members stood up for that doofus, defending his lovely tenor and his funny jokes. My neice said to her mom: "I don't see YOU up there trying to do that!" to which Jane replied: "but I'm not claiming to be a ventriliquist!" I do not understand this phenomenon. I simply do not.
.
.
The second night was much better, especially when the magician introduced his assistant:

.

Sometimes we opted to drive off-site for daytime entertainment

.
but that's another story for another day...

Aw, look at those munchkins in my Westy. Love that shot. And thanks for the idea.... tune in tomorrow for a recap of just where I was absconding with those chickens.

Oh, those two fingers in the mouth--the very ones that I sucked and then my niece sucked. That must mean she is a Very Special Girl!

First off, thanks for posting in my absence.

Second off, your apricot joke did nothing for my healing process - to laugh is to hurt.

Thirdly, I hate it when folks do a shoddy job of ventriliquizing. What is the point?

And lastly, she is the lovliest magician's assistant I've ever seen.
