Splish Splash

Hello Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

One of my favorite places in the world.

And there's no better day there -- well, unless it's summer, or my birthday . . .

. . . than New Year's Day . . .

. . . when we get to watch the crazy people swim in the icy cold Atlantic Ocean.

Wait, did I say "crazy" out loud?

They were a small group of only eight Splashers this year . . .

. . . but they followed their intrepid leader . . .

. . . and followed him . . .

. . . and kept following him . . .

(The tide was low that day, my friends.)

. . . until finally!

In . . .

. . . and out . . .

. . . and still smiling.

Jane was smiling, too; she really was. Behind her scarf.

January 1, 2014, baby.

Cheers, Mistah Schleckah!

The beach was full of lovelies . . .

. . . and the beach itself was lovely . . .

. . . as was the world back in Hooterville.

Seriously. It's pretty nice out there on the stream.

But let's face it. New Year's Day is about one thing and one thing only.

The Bonfire.

And this year? Bonfire by backhoe.

Backhoe man and his buddies know a thing or two about building a bonfire . . .

Conflagration?

Why yes!

With pleasure.

Was everyone out there, joining in on the fiery madness, you ask?

Why, no.

My friends have beauty and brains.

so much going on in this post! The freezing water, the new year's champagne toast with mistah, the crazy-ass bonfire (did you burn those inflatables?!?), the smart ladies inside with drinks! And, um, did someone get a radical hair cut?!? And also, where are the hot tub shots?

Nice post, makes me want to start some crazy New Year's day traditions out this way!!

Beth

Yes, Elizabeth! Very observant. Other Elizabeth got it chopped off, and she looks gorgeous. Natch.

And I do not know why Mistah shunned the hot tub denizens. Probably because he was not one of them.

Man, that water looks miserable. Quite an impressive bunch of studs out there, yo. Love the backhoe and the crazy fire.
