It's a mouthful, I know, but what it is is a whole lot of dedicated, motivated -- and, as was the case on Saturday -- soggy soaking drenched souls who walked a marathon, and raised a ton of money, 100% of which goes directly to breast cancer research.
That's 26.2 miles, kids.
And that's 100%. No overhead, no paid executives, just lots of volunteers who put on an amazing event every year, and money that goes directly to 2 or 3 or 6 cancer researchers.
There's chowder and apples and ice cream and bananas and drinks at the finish line . . .
. . . and lots of relief and pride when it's over.
There are massages when it's over, too. 26.2 miles is a long way to walk with soaking wet tootsie-toes. It poured, people.

The closing ceremonies featured this guy on gee-tar. There was another band that played all afternoon, too, that I could hear from my position directing traffic a ways away from the finish line. They played a lot of Stones. And some Tom Petty. I didn't bring my camera, though, because it was pouring -- have I mentioned that? -- but Dawn saved the day by bringing hers to the Closing Ceremonies. Thanks for the photos, Dawnie!

We didn't get to see our friends finish, unfortunately. Jennie and Eileen walked it -- and kicked its ass -- for the first time this year. And Martha? Martha is one of 19 people who has walked it 4 times in 4 years. Studly. ..
It was, once again, an incredible day. Summed up perfectly by my girl Jennie: "26.2 miles. In the pouring rain. Take that breast cancer!"

Studly indeed. On behalf of breasts everywhere, thank you to everyone who walked the walk, directed the traffic, rubbed the muscles, or ladled the chowder! What an inspiring event.

It was a wonderful day! I think that somehow having totally soaking wet feet helped - mine are in much better shape today than in the other years, even though I trained even less! Thanks from a walker to all the crew and supporters and donators and fellow walkers. It was just perfect and beautiful, rain or no rain!
Marathon and 100% goes to Breast cancer? That's pretty damn impressive.

I can't believe it's already been a year since the last one! Wouldn't it be incredible if in a few years there was no more need for this walk? If you had to find another cause?
